Camp Marymount Activities

FUN-FILLED DAYS AND STARRY NIGHTS

Unplugged and Engaged.

Each day camp, your child will be engaged in a number of activities. From traditional activities like landsports, archery and riflery, to swimming, canoeing and fishing at Lake Lever—our natural spring fed lake. Plus, one can also sign up for a number of special programs.

With every activity your camper enjoys, they are learning more than a particular skill. They are learning to forge healthier relationships, build a stronger self-esteem, and enhance their collaborative skills—returning home renewed and inspired. Here are just a few of our camp activities.

NEVER A DULL MOMENT

ARCHERY

Campers who take part in our Archery program learn skills that enhance both physical coordination and mental acuity. Instructors teach safety first, as well as basic archery technique and respect and care for the equipment. Awards are presented in accordance with the standards of the the American Archery Association.

ARTS & CRAFTS

Our arts and crafts program emphasizes self-expression and provides a variety of activities based on each camper’s skill level. Opportunities to paint, draw, sculpt, and work in leather crafts. Additionally, in camp crafts campers learn several pioneering skills such as cloth dying, teepee building, and candle making.

ATHLETICS

Camp Marymount offers a variety of opportunities in Athletics to help campers improve their skills in basketball, baseball, and soccer during the summer months, as well as promoting teamwork and collaboration--skills that can positively affect the rest of their lives.

DISK GOLF

Campers play on our 18-hole disc golf course that winds across camp’s scenic property. A fun and challenging game, campers must aim their disc at the target, using as few throws as possible to complete each hole (similar to golf). Camp owns an array of discs to play with, whether during their daily activity or at their own speed with friends during free-choice time.

CANOEING

Marymount is fortunate to have Lake Lever, a beautiful, five-acre, spring fed lake where our waterfront program takes place. One of our most popular waterfront activities is canoeing. Campers are taught proper care and use of boats, paddles and flotation devices, as well as basic canoeing and kayaking skills.

DRANCE (DRAMA+DANCE)

Verbal communication is an important part of development for any child, but in addition to speaking, kids also need to learn how to express their thoughts, ideas, and feelings in other ways. That's why we offer Drance during our girls session, where campers learn the power that dance, music and the dramatic arts can bring to their ability to communicate with others.

GARDENING

Campers are given the opportunity to experience nature first-hand by getting their hands dirty. Each cabin adopts an area of the garden to plant, tend and harvest. Campers also learn the importance of recycling, and get a first hand look at the compost bin and how it works as a source of fertilizer for the garden.

HORSEMANSHIP

Camp Marymount has a stable of fifteen wonderful horses. In our horsemanship program, campers are taught safety and basic "horse sense". Riding skills are taught at certain age and ability levels. Campers also learn how to saddle their horse, provide basic equine care, and appreciate, respect, and understand these beautiful animals.

MARYMOUNT MUTTERINGS

Campers get a first taste of journalism when they work on our camp's newsletter, Marymount Mutterings. This activity encourages inquisitive young minds to explore ideas, and develop and write stories using their boundless creativity.

NATURE

Campers are given the opportunity to experience nature first-hand through hikes to a variety of natural areas on our property including woods, swamps, ponds, creeks and clearings.

RIFLERY

Riflery provides opportunities to learn skills that eencourage personal achievement. Instructors teach safety first. Campers are taught to respect and care for the equipment. Awards are presented in accordance with the standards of the National Rifle Association.

WATERFRONT

Marymount is fortunate to have Lake Lever, a beautiful, five-acre, spring fed lake where our waterfront program takes place. We offer swimming lessons for every camper. We offer canoeing and kayaking, as well as a number of water games. And who could resist a jump on our blob. Lifeguards are on duty during all watersports activities and are certified by the American Red Cross.

WEIRD SCIENCE

When your camper signs up for Weird Science, they are given the opportunity to explore basic scientific experiments that are both exciting and educational. Basic elements of chemistry and physics are introduced to your child through a number of lab experiments including chemical reactions.

WILDERNESS AWARENESS

Campers are given the opportunity to experience nature first-hand through hikes to a variety of natural areas in camp including woods, swamps, ponds, creeks and clearings. Learning to appreciate these ecosystems and the importance of protecting them, campers learn to become good stewards of God's earth.

YARD GAMES

Playing outdoor games can be a brilliant way to enhance learning abilities in kids. They learn important life lessons and skills, and develop a problem-solving attitude. Yard games can help kids develop their gross and fine motor skills, achieve better agility, and improve balance and coordination. Yard Games also helps develop qualities like discipline, sportsmanship, and leadership – all of which are useful later in life.
